OUR TEAM

…the people behind the work

STfL People

Charlotte O’Connor
Executive Director

Charlotte's responsibilities include strategic leadership, managing our team, governance and stakeholder engagement. She works closely with our Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers, establishing a culture that aligns with our values.

Oli Back
Schools and Operations Manager

Oli takes on a lot of the non-project related functions (e.g. finance, communications, data) across the charity as well as running the School Programme in Southwark, Lambeth, Croydon and Lewisham.

Eva Hall
Tree Care Coordinator

Eva maintains STfL’s planted trees to ensure that they thrive, keeping STfL’s high tree survival rate of 96% on track. She coordinates STfL’s weekly Tree Care Sessions where groups of STfL volunteers visit different trees around the borough, pruning, weeding and de-caging.

David Low
Trees Project Manager

David manages STfL’s Sponsorship Programme.  He also coordinates the planting of all trees in the public realm and works with STfL’s network of volunteer Area Reps to ensure that trees are given every chance to survive and thrive in our streets.

Operations

Key to the smooth running of operations is a mix of staff, contractors and volunteers. Bringing dedication and expertise, these people help with a range of operations within the charity.

Tree Care Consultant
Caroline Cupitt

Database Lead
Stuart Reed

Web & Graphic Designer
Kate McGreevy

Area Representatives

Integral to our work are the volunteers who help to get trees planted across Lewisham. Without this dedicated team of tree enthusiasts we would not be able to plant as many trees or engage with communities in meaningful ways.

Trustees

Trustees oversee STfL's work, ensuring that the charity meets its objectives. Trustees make decisions collectively and work as a team to support the charity. Trustees are also responsible for managing the charity's resources effectively.

Secretary
Elly Bagnall

Chair
Sophie McGeevor

Sophie grew up in Brockley and has had a long association with Street Trees for Living. She first heard about the charity when she was working behind the bar at the Talbot Pub, where Brockley Street Trees (as it was then known) used to have their first meetings.

Sophie was Brockley councillor from 2016-2022, and from 2018-2022 was Lewisham Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment. As a councillor and Cabinet member Sophie was a vocal and active supporter of STfL and other voluntary groups working to fill the huge gap in local authority funding, and was always looking for creative ways to fill that gap.

Sophie now works in external affairs for the Environment Agency, in Flood and Coastal Risk Management.

Vice Chair
Jo Goddard

Jo is the founder of sustainability consultancy Green & Good Consulting.  She has been a sustainability practitioner for 15 years and works with businesses to implement sustainability strategy. Her love of environmental issues developed whilst travelling and she has spent her career influencing businesses to better protect the environment since.

Jo has a deep knowledge of human rights and environmental issues and has sat on the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission Working Group for Business and Human Rights. She is a Council member for Heart of the City and an Independent Non-executive Director at Petrolube.

Trustee Board
Alice Cairns

Alice was born and raised in south east London and always loved being outside and especially forests. After a long career in TV news she retrained as a garden designer where she tries to plant as many trees as possible. Links to STfL began in 2017 as a street rep and a sponsor and gained speed after 2022 when she became an Area Rep and joined the tree maintenance volunteers as well.

Raj Joneja

Raj is a long term south-east London resident and finance professional with 12 years experience in roles ranging from web communications to algorithmic interest rate trading.

He is an organiser of Runhead community running club, the New Cross and Deptford Free Film festival and is a volunteer with Flysheet Camps who take underprivileged children on camping holidays in rural woodland near the Peak District.

Raj spent his childhood summers running through the woods in Cornwall and now enjoys running through the streets of south east London, seeking out green spots and trees wherever they are hidden!

Greg Packman

Greg has been working with trees since 2009 as a tree surgeon, consultant and tree officer, and feels very lucky to be able to see amazing trees and work in amazing locations!

Greg finds trees endlessly fascinating; every time you find something new it opens up a new rabbit hole to explore! Outside of Greg’s job with trees he does a lot of voluntary work with a number of organisations to connect people with trees.
